A lecture series we produced on ancient and medieval West African history by Dr. Michael Gomez for the Africa-America Institute:

“The prevailing view suggests Africa had little to no history prior to the transatlantic slave trade. This notion contradicts the deep histories of empires like Gao, Mali, and Songhay.” - Dr. Michael Gomez, NYU

This series, tailored for the Detroit School District, seeks to enlighten and challenge these misconceptions. This was a three-part series that will be distributed to public high school history teachers in the Detroit School District to enhance their impact with students.
