Featuring community leaders from Thurston, Pierce, and King counties, our role in this project was not just to document an event but to help tell a broader story—one about the organizations fighting to create a more racially just Washington and their journey to build collective power. We collaborated with Inatai’s communications team to develop a shared vision for this final gathering. For this piece, our goal was to rely on spot interviews with community leaders and emphasize their perceptions about how collaboration amongst organizations can and will lead to shifting the balance of power in Washington state.
Hosted by Inatai Foundation, the Shaping the Future convenings have never been about a single event, but about what happens between them - the learning, the listening, and the ongoing work. Power grows when communities lead, when people collaborate across regions and perspectives, and when investment reaches every part of the state. This convening was not a finale, but a reflection point. Our goal was to capture how Inatai’s statewide vision becomes real through relationships, alignment, and continued commitment to community led change.
Our deliverables included documentary-style recap videos in both English and Spanish, short-form reels for social media, and mixed versions of several of the speeches that happened at the gathering.
The videos are now used by Inatai to tell the story of the gathering and uplift collective power building as a means to create a more racially just state. More than just recaps, the videos offer a deeper look at what it means to lead with care, show up with purpose, and build power alongside others.
They also serve as a reminder that while Washington is often viewed through the lens of one region, powerful community work is happening everywhere. Inatai’s gatherings show that our people are everywhere, and that the future is being shaped by them.
